Self-care makes it possible to survive days like this without losing our ability to bounce! Self-care allows us to step back from our troubles and see them as part of the S*&% in the phrase “S*&% Happens!” When we take care of ourselves we are able to ride out the storm without losing ourselves in fear, anger, guilt, or blaming. Self-Care allows us to bounce back and continue the journey.
There are two types of self-care. The first is proactive. This is the day-to-day care we provide ourselves to help us maintain our balance. The second is reactive. Reactive self-care includes those things we do to help us regain our balance when life has knocked us off balance.
A healthy self-care regimen includes the faithful practice of proactive disciplines and a good reserve of reactive disciplines that can be called upon when needed. It means taking care of our mind/body/soul everyday and standing ready to do the something extra when life gets too complicated.
It is the intent of these self-care notes to give you the information you need to understand and practice excellent self-care. I invite you to read and practice the things you find here. I also encourage you to explore ways to take care of yourself. You know yourself better than anyone else. You will know what works and what doesn’t. If these notes can encourage you to discover more “Bounce” in your life, then they will have fulfilled their purpose.

Self-Care Tips The EMOJI Journal
Open the Notes App on your smartphone. Start a New Note with the words EMOJI Journal in the first line. Then, on a new line enter the date. Then note the time and select the EMOJI that best describes your mood at that moment. Later on, start a new line and enter the time a select a new EMOJI. At the end of the day go back and look at how your mood changed throughout the day. If you feel like it, jot a note or two that may come to mind. BUT THIS IS NOT ESSENTIAL! The EMOJI’s themselves tell you most of what you need to know. The next morning, start a new line, enter the date, and continue as before.
At the end of the week, you may want to spend some time with your EMOJI Journal and look for patterns or insights they may bring to mind. You may want to note them, or not, in the app. While this information can be very helpful in seeing your life in a broader perspective, the real power of the EMOJI Journey is far more subtle. By disciplining yourself to pay attention to your internal voice(s) and the moods they are creating, you will become more aware of when your spirit needs a little TLC. Your bad mood could be low blood sugar or the lack of bounce in your soul. Either way, you will be able to respond with a cookie or a little quiet time at your desk.
I encourage you to try the EMOJI Journal for a few weeks and discover for yourself the power that self-knowledge can have in helping you BOUNCE!
